Promise & Proof is an applied AI consulting and implementation firm in New York. We find where frontier AI belongs in a business, ship it to production, and tie the result to the P&L. We are a senior team of operators and forward deployed engineers who have run data and AI inside global enterprises and built it hands-on in startups. We work in any industry, including across private equity portfolios; our published case studies come from media, streaming, sport, and ad tech.

As an Engagement Lead, you will own client engagements from the first conversation with the business sponsor to a system in production and in use. You will run discovery workshops, write the scoped, build-ready brief, set success criteria before the first line of code, and lead forward deployed engineers through the build and rollout. You will be the person a client’s executives trust to tell them what AI will, and will not, do for their business.

• Lead intake with the business sponsor and run discovery workshops: where generative AI, agents, and data products create value, and where they don’t
• Write scoped, build-ready briefs, sequenced by dollar impact and risk
• Set success criteria up front (revenue, margin, hours reclaimed, adoption) and report against them
• Lead forward deployed engineers through one to six week builds, rollout, and hand-off
• Advise executives on enterprise AI strategy: how to sequence, govern, and scale from pilot to production
• Bring an operator’s lens to build-vs-buy and vendor selection
• Turn each engagement into playbooks the firm can reuse, and help shape new engagements with referred clients
• Work in person with clients and the team in New York at least 25% of the time, more when an engagement needs it

• Have 8+ years in operating, product, data, or consulting roles with real P&L exposure
• Have led data or AI programs from strategy through production and adoption
• Are technical enough to challenge an engineer’s estimate and to explain a model’s limits to a CEO
• Write and present clearly to executive teams and boards
• Stay calm and precise when priorities change

• Operating experience across more than one industry
• Private equity value creation or portfolio operations experience
• Experience building data products that earned revenue
• Hands-on experience with LLM applications, agents, or evaluation

The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.

Education requirements: we require at least a bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Location-based hybrid policy: We expect everyone to be in person in New York, with the team or at client sites, at least 25% of the time. Some engagements require more.
